SRO is an acronym for Standing Room Only. It refers to an event that is so well-attended that all of the chairs in the venue are occupied, leaving only flat spaces for attendees to stand. SRO is the accepted… and generally only way to see a indie show in San Francisco. However, some larger venues that actually sell seats… may issue SRO tickets for a reduced cost since it can become very uncomfortable to stand for an entire show.
Some fans prefer standing-room-only tickets as the crowds that gather can be more active than people who are sitting down for much of the event.
Example:
This year I volunteered at Noise Pop. The lady in charge introduced herself, then said:
We can watch the show, but it’s SRO, you’ll have to watch from backstage.
SRO is not to be confused with: (SINGLE ROOM OCCUPANCY)
A single room occupancy is a multiple tenant building that houses one or two people in individual rooms. SRO tenants typically share bathrooms and or kitchens, while some SRO rooms may include kitchenettes, bathrooms, or half-baths.
